Foldable storage boxes with wooden lids started as a camping product. Then car owners bought them for the boot, and market traders bought them for the stall. The same factory now sells all three.
Taizhou and the surrounding region make the plastic crates, the folding frames and the hardware. What changes between buyers is the lid material, the load rating and the carton size.

Outdoor storage is easy to make and easy to get stuck at customs. The inspection sheet covers the geometry, the load rating and the paperwork.

The wooden lid is the risky part
Outdoor storage is easy to make and easy to get stuck at customs. Two documents decide whether your container clears.
- ISPM 15 for solid woodAny solid-wood component entering the US, EU, UK or Australia needs heat treatment and the IPPC mark. Ask the factory for the certificate before production, not after.
- EUTR due diligence for the EUWood products sold into the EU need a due-diligence record on the timber source. Factories that export regularly already have the template.
- Food-contact rules if it is a coolerInsulated bags and lunch boxes that touch food fall under FDA / LFGB. Ask for the material declaration, not just a photo.
- Carton CBM before you commitThese items are bulky. A 3 cm difference in folded height changes how many units fit in a 40HQ — and your landed cost.
